Grounding Yourself: Tips for Finding Stability and Routine in a Changing World

After long periods of lockdowns, social distancing, and working from home, we are finally starting to get back to our regular routines. People are looking forward to traveling, seeing friends and family, and returning to their jobs now that the restrictions have been lifted. However, this sudden change has been a bit overwhelming for many people. Many of us have faced anxiety or tension about returning to our lives after spending a considerable amount of time alone and working from home.

Here are some ways that you can ground yourself and organize your life :

1 . Create a routine: Having a routine can help you feel more in control of your life. Start by waking up and going to bed at the same time every day, and scheduling time for exercise, work, and relaxation.

  • Write down your goals and priorities.
  • Determine the steps you need to take to achieve those goals.
  • Decide on a specific time frame for your routine (e.g., daily, weekly, or monthly).
  • Set a schedule and stick to it.
  • Keep your goal visible, post it on your table or a mirror.

2. Practice self-care: Self-care is essential for maintaining one’s mental and physical health. Try the following techniques:

  • Take care of your physical health: eat well, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep.
  • Manage your stress: Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation.
  • Make time for activities that you enjoy: read, listen to music, or take a warm bath.
  • Set boundaries: Say no to things that don’t serve you or drain your energy.
  • Connect with others: Spend time with loved ones or connect with a support group.

3. Take small steps: Don’t do everything all at once. Too much information can be quite overwhelming. Instead, select one task, take small steps towards finishing it and celebrate your progress along the way.

4. Seek support: Talking to friends and family, or seeking support from a therapist, can help you feel less alone and more supported during this transition.

Your mind and body are not two separate entities, but rather a harmonious duo that dance together to create your unique experience of life.
