Chetan Kaur Bhogal
Chetan Kaur Bhogal (CKB) is an artist who feels deeply and looks closely. She is fascinated by how things work: the many layers of a single emotion, the intricacy of living things, and the unexpected parallels between fields that rarely meet.
In pursuit of the overlooked.
Origins
Born in India, CKB has been drawing for as long as she can remember. As a child, she found it easier to draw her thoughts than to explain them. She spent hours watching the people around her and building whole worlds in her head.
Two ways of seeing
CKB is also a scientist, specializing in genetics. The two sides of her life connect and then drift apart. Science fills her art with layers of observation and detail, and art brings creative thinking to her research.

She is a self-taught artist. She started with watercolour, gouache, and oil, and one medium led to the next: pottery, then jewellery, then photography. She still loves picking up a new technique, mixing materials, and having the freedom to move between them.
The work reveals
itself slowly.
Each piece starts with an urge to make something, often with nothing but a blank sheet. Thoughts and feelings get worked out along the way, and she comes back to it over several days, learning what it is about.
Connection and room for each viewer to see what they came looking for.
Across places,
the practice continues.
She spent nearly nine years in Daejeon, South Korea, where she studied and worked. She loved living there and learning a new culture, and she took part in exhibitions with DJAC, the Daejeon Arts Collective.
She then moved to Montréal, where the city’s rich art culture and warmth won her over. She felt at home almost right away. She continues her research and her art.
